History and legend of Bhagsunag Temple

To show his devotion to Lord Shiva, King Bhagsu constructed the Bhagsunag Temple in the area. It is believed that the deity bhagsunag blessed him with the waters of Manimahesh Lake, which were then brought back to his kingdom.

After the battle, Bhagsunag  was pleased with King Bhagsu’s devotion and humility and granted him a boon. In thanks, the King decided to build a temple in the region dedicated to Lord Shiva, as a sign of his gratitude to Bhagsunag . Thus, the temple is known as the Bhagsunag  Temple.

Who was King Bhagsunag?

The local legend states that 5,000 years ago Nagdevata, the snake god, faced a local king Bhagsunag who had stolen water from Nag Dal Lake. Bhagsu was vanquished by Nagdevata and subsequently forgiven and the site became known as Bhagsunag.

Why is Bhagsunag temple famous

It’s believed that the water in these pools is connected to the divine, and can heal physical and mental ailments. People often take a dip in the pools and offer prayers to the gods for healing.
