In Dharamshala, India, there is a Tibetan library called the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA). Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, established the library on June 11, 1970, and it is regarded as one of the most significant collections of Tibetan writings in the entire world.

Important Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts and archives pertaining to Tibet’s history, politics, culture, and even art are among the sources that were evacuated from Tibet after the 1959 exodus and are now found in the library.

 More than 600 thangkas, sculptures, and other artefacts of Buddhist heritage are among its more than 80,000 manuscripts, books, and records. It also has 10,000 pictures, among many other things.

In modern era in 1959,owing to the chinese occupation of tibet, several tibetans migrated to india. Fearing a threat to tibetan culture, while many of the manuscripts that survived were offered to His holiness Dalai Lama.

HIGHLIGHTS :

The second floor of the library contains a museum (opened in 1974) containing notable artifacts and items that date back to the twelfth century.

 Access to more than 80,000 manuscripts relating to the history, culture and spirituality in Tibetan Buddhism.
