History of tea gardens

The history of Tea Garden Dharamshala goes back to the British colonial era in India. In the mid-19th century, the British established tea plantations throughout India to meet the increasing European demand for tea. Dr. Jameson, a British civil surgeon, established the first tea plantation in Himachal Pradesh in the early 1850s by planting tea seeds brought from China on a tea farm called Tea Garden Dharamshala.
